WASHINGTON — In a burst of color and creativity, the Columbia Heights neighborhood is about to become the canvas for a new LGBTQ+ art gallery that promises to add vibrant strokes of inclusivity and expression to the neighborhood's landscape.

Officials say Dandelion Collective is a new space for LGBTQ+ healers and artists. The space will hold its first exhibition on August 24, with an opening reception from 2 p.m. through 6 p.m. The first exhibit inside the space will feature artwork by John Von Sauerhoff, who uses acrylic and mixed media to make ethereal abstracts and paintings. Von Sauerhoff was born in Baltimore and has been a D.C. resident for the past 24 years.

Anyone hoping to attend the opening reception and meet the man behind the art, can click here to sign up. Snacks will be provided and the event is free and open to everyone.

"Our art gallery is dedicated to uplifting queer voices through the power of art. Our platform provides space for LGBTQ+ artists to present their art to and share their stories with the public. We believe that art is a critical facet of the human experience. Through our exhibitions, we aim to inspire connection, spark dialogue, and celebrate the resilience and diversity of queer identities in Washington, DC.," the Dandelion Collective website reads.

In addition, anyone hoping to sell their art and have it displayed at the gallery can apply for free. For more information on how to submit, click here.
