TEMPLE HILLS, Md. — A long-standing skating rink in Temple Hills, Maryland is gearing up for a grand re-opening on Father's Day weekend. Isaiah 58 Skate House, formerly known as Crystal's Skate Palace and DMV All Skate Social, is now under new management.
Owner Isaiah Abraham says he is excited for the opportunity. The Southeast D.C. native says he used to skate at the rink as a kid and worked there as a skating guard decades ago. He's grateful for the opportunity to keep the rink in the community, but added he needs support from patrons to keep the doors open.
Abraham told WUSA9 he wants to revive the skating scene and provide a safe space for people to have fun.
Abraham says he's moving his own security company into the top floor of the rink and plans to proved 24/7 security to the rink. WUSA9 covered a fatal shooting that occurred at the rink two years ago, when it was under different management.
Last year, 31-year-old Eugene Smith, a father of five and head of security at the rink at the time, was shot and killed, according to Prince George's County police.
The grand opening will take place Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16. There will be a matinee skate from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday night Abraham said the rink is offering a teen skate from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Sunday, there will be three different skating sessions offered. The matinee skate from noon until 4 p.m., a DJ skate from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and an adults-only skate session from 9 p.m. until 1a.m.
