Heroic Maryland teen finally home after shielding stranger from gunfire

After more than 100 surgeries and 4 months in the hospital, 17-year-old Chase Lancaster is finally home and just in time for Christmas and his birthday.

URBANA, Md. — After more than 100 surgeries and four months in the hospital, 17 year old Chase Lancaster is finally home and just in time for Christmas.

His father, Alex, told WUSA9, Chase jumped in front of a bullet to save a stranger when shots rang out at a party in the 3300 block of Galena Drive in Urbana.

The bullet destroyed his kidney, damaged his liver and one of his largest veins.

Chase is finally home, celebrating his 17th birthday surrounded by family and close friends.

“He’s always loved donut cakes. We just get donuts and stack them on top of each other. Instead, of cutting a slice we’ll be able to take a donut,” Lancaster said.

It’s still unclear when Chase will return to school or play football.

For now, his father tells WUSA9 he’s taking it one day at a time, focusing on physical therapy and the small wins.

“One of his favorite things, about being home, aside from family and friends is that he was finally able to take his own shower.” Lancaster said.

The Frederick County Sheriff told WUSA9 Chase was not the intended target and no arrests have been made in the attack.
