GERMANTOWN, Md. — The D.C. Area Interfaith Gun Violence Prevention Network, in partnership with the Montgomery County Sheriff and State’s Attorney, will host a gun buyback program.
The event will take place in the parking lot of the United Church of Christ of Seneca Valley in Germantown, Maryland Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents will be able to anonymously and voluntarily turn in their firearms in exchange for a $100 gift card to Giant Food Grocery Store.
All functioning handguns, rifles, and shotguns will get you a $100 gift card. Those who turnover any military assault-style weapons or ghost guns will be given a $200 gift card.
All firearms will be accepted without ID requested and on a no-questions-asked policy by law enforcement. The Sheriff’s Office will inspect all firearms prior to deciding eligibility for gift cards and providing gun safety information.
Anyone interested in surrendering a weapon on Saturday must adhere to the rules:
- You must remain in your car at all times.
- Firearms must be unloaded and transported in the trunk.
- No ammunition in guns is allowed.
- Walk-ups are not allowed.
- Sponsors reserve the right to limit the number of gift cards given to an individual regardless of the amount of weapons surrendered.
- Non-functioning firearms and ammunition are accepted but with no exchange of compensation.
Gift card quantities are limited and subject to availability.
The gun buyback drive is being held just 24-hours after nine people were shot across the DMV area.
