WASHINGTON — More than 100 other people gathered at Anacostia Park in Southeast D.C. Friday to honor Lou'Loni Jordan, and hope for justice.
WUSA9 has learned that Lou'Loni Jordan is the twin sister of a Capitol Heights police officer. The police department, along with other agencies, was in attendance at the Friday evening vigil.
Candles are shining a light on a path for a group of family and friends to grieve.
“She gave me a hug, said ‘See you Grammy’ and I said, ‘See you Loni’ and that was the last time I saw her,” said grandmother Elanie Jordan.
Just three days after Elaine Jordan saw her granddaughter, Lou'Loni Jordan was killed.
“She had plans to get an apartment or a house and all of this now is gone,” Elaine Jordan said. “She had planned to do so much…”
DC Police say officers were around the 700 block of Florida Ave, Northwest when they heard gunshots. They didn't find a victim at that crime scene but later learned Jordan was shot there and someone took her to the hospital, where she later died.
“This was not supposed to happen to her. It was a night they was supposed to just.. went out and have fun,” Lou'Loni's mother, Tonya Jordan said.
Her mother is now leading a call for people to put the guns down.
“A lot of us are hurt by it, we would wish the gun violence would please stop,” Tonya Jordan said.
“We’ve had about 125 homicides this year,” DC Councilman Robert White Jr. said. "One is too many."
White Jr. also spoke out on the issue of gun violence, as police continue to try to find the suspect in this case.
“Some people know who did this and they need to come forward to the police,” White Jr. said. “Like, this isn’t the time for people to be cowards and hide.”
Lou'Loni Jordan's bubbly spirit and impact reflected in the amount of people celebrating her just one week later.
“Lou’Loni was loved by a lot of people and her personality was, she would meet you and just talk and drew people in,” Elanie Jordan said.
Jordan’s funeral services are scheduled for next Friday. MPD is offering a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction.
