FAIRFAX, Va. — Attention Readers! The Fairfax Library Foundation will be hosting two free events as part of its highly acclaimed Children's Summer Reading Festival.
This is the second year the foundation has hosted the festival, which aims to encourage summer reading among children to prevent students from experiencing learning loss over summer break.
The festival, which starts in June, includes two free events:
- Saturday, June 15, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, at Woodrow Wilson Library, 6101 Knollwood Dr., Falls Church, VA 22041
- Sunday, August 18, from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm, at Chantilly Regional Library, 4000 Springfield Road, Chantilly, VA 20151
The events will feature activities for children of all ages including: face painting, bounce houses, balloon and caricature artists, games and crafts, live entertainment, food trucks, and a photobooth.
"[Last year's] inaugural event saw more than 2,500 Fairfax County children and families in attendance—with last year’s total number of FCPL Summer Reading Program participants shattering all previous records as a result," said the foundation in a press release.
The Fairfax Library Foundation has made it a mission to enhance programs and services within the Fairfax County Public Library system since 1994. The nonprofit claims FCPL is the largest public library system in the commonwealth.
