'It’s a little disheartening ' | Local activist reacts to Councilman Trayon White's post accusing him of working with the FBI

A lot of people are reacting to a DC councilmember's recent social media post.

WASHINGTON — DC Councilmember Trayon White was arrested by the FBI last month, accused of accepting more than $150,000 in bribes. This week, he shared a post that's been gaining a lot of traction with his nearly 80,000 followers on Instagram.

White accused one D.C. resident of working with the FBI and told his followers to stay away from him. The man who was targeted by the councilmember spoke exclusively to WUSA9 Thursday evening.

“To do something like this, knowing the culture and what they think of informants and people working with law enforcement, it was just concerning,” said Cameron Montgomery.

Montgomery calls himself a community activist, but this week councilman Trayon White called him a lot more.

White posted a picture of Montgomery saying "Is this guy an agent provocateur of the FBI?” He then told people to ignore him and be careful and DO NOT harm him.

Montgomery said he was shocked by White's post.

“It’s a little disheartening with everything going on in the community, all the violence,” Montgomery said.

“Do you work for the FBI?” WUSA's Alexis Wainwright asked.

“No ma'am,” Montgomery said. “Not at all.”

White was arrested by the FBI last month, accused of using his position to pressure government agencies into renewing $5 million worth of violence intervention contracts. The feds say they were tipped off by a confidential source who accepted a plea agreement with the government.

WUSA9 received several reports online – appearing to show that confidential source was assaulted after an affidavit with these details was unsealed.

“I heard there was another individual that may have been beat up or something like that,” Montgomery said. “Once they found out he worked for the FBI or something like that. I pray that the goal wasn’t to have that happen to me.”

WUSA9 reached out to White's office about this but has not heard back.
