WASHINGTON — Do you find yourself dodging potholes through the district? Does it seem like this year is the worst?
According to the D.C. Department of Transportation, 2019 is off to a worse start for potholes than last year.
Spokesman Terry Owens said DDOT has received significantly more pothole complaints than in 2018.
Owens said potholes are caused by weather and extreme temperature swings.
How did this weather make it worse? 2018’s record rainfall has contributed to the problem. Then add in the nearly-record breaking freezing temperatures. Owens said that is a recipe for potholes.
Now with the massive swing in temperatures, as the District heats up this week, expect the potholes to get worse.
DDOT said they will be out in full force trying to deal with the potholes on clear days. You can request to have a pot hole filled by calling 311.
