UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man who was upset about a break-up with his girlfriend and killed her has been sentenced to life plus 10 years in jail, according to Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.
On Friday, Andrew Kugler was sentenced in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Amber Schinault. He was previously found guilty of first-degree murder.
Schinault was found dead, with her throat slashed, in the basement of her Berwyn Heights home on July 22, 2012.
Less than 24 hours after Schinault's body was found, Kugler was found and charged with her murder. Authorities say evidence at trial showed that Kugler crawled through a basement window and killed Schinault.
Schinault's murder was the first homicide in Berwyn Heights in 21 years.
