RICHMOND, Va. — The famous "Virginia is for Lovers" slogan is celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer with a statewide "50 Years of Love" celebration.
Festivities will begin June 21 and end August 10. There will be "50 Years of Love" themed deals, festivals, promotions and special events scattered throughout the commonwealth.
The celebration will kick off in Richmond with the display of Melanie Stimmell Van Latum's 3D "LOVE" artwork. Click here for a full schedule.
Some example events include a 50-mile bike ride on the Virginia Capital Trail, movie nights inspired by iconic moments of 1969 and activities at breweries, wineries and distilleries along the Steins, Vine and Moonshine Trail.
“While it has meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people, one thing hasn’t changed – the love of Virginia," said Rita McClenny, President and CEO of Virginia Tourism Corporation. "This year, we are excited to celebrate '50 Years of Love' and the many amazing reasons to visit the Commonwealth.”
