MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — (Editor's Note: The video above is from April 12, 2021)
Residents in Montgomery County have less than a month to apply for emergency rental assistance until a new round of funding becomes available next year.
According to a release from Montgomery County, the Emergency Rental Assistance Program Application Portal will close on December 31. No additional applications will be accepted after that deadline.
Officials say that as of Nov. 29, nearly $40 million in direct help has been given through ERA 1 funds to people and more than 3,700 evictions have been prevented.
"We encourage residents who may be eligible for rent relief to submit applications before Dec. 31," said officials in a press release. "Those individuals who need assistance completing an application should call 311, and they will be matched with a nonprofit partner who can help, or they will be contacted by a program staff member."
People who have already applied can check on their application station on the rent relief portal. People who have already received funding are not eligible for additional COVID Rent Relief funds if they have received an eviction judgment or a “red & white” notice from the sheriff.
Another round of rent-relief funding and an updated application process and eligibility will be announced early next year.
More information on the program can be found on the 311 website.
