Firehook Bakery to close all three DMV locations; Dupont to reopen

The bakery may be closing their brick-and-mortars, but the cracker line will continue to be sold.

WASHINGTON — Firehook Bakery is closing their three DMV area bakeries so the company can focus full time on their line of mediterranean crackers.

The bakery’s three locations in Alexandria, Dupont Circle and Chantilly will all shut down on Dec. 24, so fans only have one more week to pick up their favorite specialty bakery items.

But Dupont Circle fans, don’t worry. This location will reopen Jan. 2, 2025 as the Dupont Coffee Collective.

According to a sign posted in the window of the bakery, the new coffee shop will be owned entirely by current Firehook Dupont employees and 10% of its proceeds will go toward local food nonprofits.

It will offer the same locally-roasted coffee it previously offered and will have some new sweet and savory food options.

On the sign, the company wishes the Dupont Circle team well on the new shop.

“We are thrilled to support the Dupont team on this new venture. This is an exciting new chapter for the employee-owners and for our commitment to supporting local businesses,” the company wrote.

As for the locations in Alexandria and Chantilly, they will be fully closing.

The company posted to its local bakery Instagram account this statement on Dec. 10:

It's the end of an era ...

It is the end of an exciting chapter in Firehook's history. Firehook will be permanently closing all three of its retail bakeries on December 24, 2024. As a result of the store closings, as of Dec 24th we will no longer be selling the specialty items offered at the bakeries on-line, but will continue to sell our full range of Mediterranean Baked Crackers.

Of course it is a bittersweet announcement. While we will miss being a purveyor of delectable artisan breads and pastries, the decision was made so that we can support the rapid growth and expansion of our national Firehook Cracker business.

We have been honored to serve you for the past three decades and are grateful for your years of patronage and support!

Wishing you all our very best and the happiest holiday season!
