WUSA9's Tony Perkins and Annie Yu host 'Jewels of Asia' Awards in Hanover, MD

As Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is coming to an end, WUSA9's own Tony Perkins and Annie Yu helped recognize and celebrate AAPI leaders from the DMV.

HANOVER, Md. — The Asian American Chamber of Commerce held its "Jewels of Asia" Awards Gala Saturday evening at the Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover, Md.

Tony Perkins and Annie Yu, who host WUSA9's weekday morning show "Get UP DC," emceed the gala.

The gala celebrates and recognizes achievements in the Asia American Pacific Islander community and brings together business leaders. The celebration is held in the month of May in honor of APPI Heritage Month.

The theme of the Gala was “Forging New Business Frontiers” and focused on maintaining a bright outlook for business after the challenges brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic and inflation.

The Gala included cultural performances, speakers, and small business owners. Special remarks were given by Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan.

Before hosting the event, Yu tweeted that the awards "[honor] the accomplishment of many, and [embrace] the diversity that graces our region."

Get Up DC airs weekday mornings on WUSA9 from 4:25 a.m. until 7 a.m. In addition to Perkins and Yu, the show is also hosted by Allison Seymour.
