ATLANTA — UPDATE (8 a.m.): Delta has now posted that it has "resumed some flight departures after a vendor technology issue impacted several airlines and businesses around the world."
The company adds: "Additional delays and cancelations are expected Friday."
Regarding travel waivers: "Delta has issued a travel waiver for all customers who have booked flights departing Friday, July 19. It allows customers to manage their own travel changes via http://delta.com and the Fly Delta app. The fare difference for customers will be waived when rebooked travel occurs on or before July 24, in the same cabin of service as originally booked. If travel is rebooked after July 24, any difference in fare between the original ticket and the new ticket will be collected at the time of booking.

With global tech outages impacting sectors from business to medicine to transportation, Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is among the companies dealing with the fallout early Friday morning.
The worldwide disruptions have stemmed from issues with Microsoft systems, tracing to a defect in an update from the IT security company CrowdStrike.
CrowdStrike President and CEO George Kurtz posted just before 6 a.m. on Friday that a "fix has been deployed" for the tech issues after a "defect was found in a single content update for Windows hosts."
It remains unclear as of 7:15 a.m. when systems will come fully back online and when flights will be resuming in Atlanta and elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Delta posted on X that the airline has "paused its global flight schedule this morning due to a vendor technology issues that is impact several airlines and businesses around the world."
"We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible," Delta's post stated.
The company added that it is working on accommodations for passengers currently in limbo, writing:
"We are also working to issue a travel waiver this morning that will allow customers scheduled to travel Friday, July 19, to manage changes to their itinerary via http://Delta.com or the Fly Delta app."
As of 7:15 a.m., the flight tracking website FlightAware showed 40 delays and 15 cancellations so far at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Delta's latest advisement stated:
"Customers with flights scheduled for Friday should continue checking their flight status via the Fly Delta app and http://Delta.com."
