Home in Colesville goes up in flames, family cat still missing

The family is displaced as a result.

COLESVILLE, Md. — A fire late Monday night in Colesville, Maryland, has left a family displaced and their beloved cat missing. The blaze broke out around 11:45 p.m. on Peacock Lane, where Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews arrived to find a single-family home’s deck engulfed in flames. What started as a deck fire quickly spread to the attic, threatening the entire home and its occupants.

Firefighters from several nearby stations responded, working together to knock down the bulk of the fire before it consumed the home. Fortunately, the family of six, including three children and their three dogs, escaped without injury. However, amid the chaos, their cat went missing.

While the fire’s cause remains under investigation, early reports indicate it likely started on the deck before spreading into the home.

The family of six is now displaced as a result of the flames.
