ARLINGTON, Va. — AAA said almost 80 million Americans traveled for the Thanksgiving holiday, and for many, in the DMV, it sure felt like millions.
On Sunday, traffic at Reagan Airport was backed up for almost a mile. It took some nearly two hours to get through.
“It’s insane. I got off my taxi was in standstill for 20 min. I’m not racking up a $500 bill to go to College Park, Maryland." Akiva Nelson, said.
Passengers could be seen jumping out their rides and running to the airport to catch their flights.
Those arriving to the DCA, stood in awe at the long line of traffic ahead.
For many, taxis and ride share wasn’t an option. One passenger told WUSA9 ride-share surges were so high she opted for public transportation instead.
“About about 15 mins ago, like $63 to go to Capitol Hill." Brooke, said.
The good news for those of you who haven't returned to D.C. yet Sunday night, AAA said the best time to travel is Monday, before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m.
Airport officials are encouraging passengers to take the Metro if they can.
