WASHINGTON — A D.C.-based dog rescue is getting national recognition thanks, in part, to some little artists.
First graders at Tyler Elementary School, in Southeast Washington, put their artistic talents to work by drawing, or coloring pictures of dogs at the Rural Dog Rescue (RDR) looking to get adopted.
Their depictions of the dogs named Toby, Rosie, Ollie and Daisy caught the attention of the hugely popular social media account 'We Rate Dogs' with its 9.2 million followers on X, formerly known at Twitter. And the result is touching and compassionate.
The post is captioned: "First graders drew dogs from their local rescue to help them get adopted. 13/10 for all."
The RDR works to rescue high-risk dogs like senior pups, hounds, black dogs and fur-babies that are sick or hurt in high kill shelters in rural areas.
The shelter is 100% foster based and their next adoption event is Saturday, Feb. 10 at pet store, Howl To The Chief located at 719 8th Street Southeast in Southeast D.C. To date the volunteer-based rescue has saved 2,000 dogs. Hopefully the work of these little Picassos will help to get more of these dogs into fur-ever homes.
