RESTON, Va. — A group of brilliant minds from Northern Virginia is being recognized nationally for finding solutions to real-world problems.
The robotics team from Reston's Ideaventions Academy For Mathematics and Science — a school for gifted students — recently won first place overall, and first place for best presentation and communication, at the Bell Advanced Vertical Robotics Competition in Dallas.
This year, Team Daedalus, which is made up of students from 9th to 12th grades, had to simulate a helicopter dropping water onto a building fire.
The team built two large drones that autonomously navigated through the course and dropped the water with the help of three smaller drones controlled manually to finish additional tasks.
Next up, Team Daedalus will travel to Xponential 2024. It's a global conference in San Diego. Good luck, team!
