WASHINGTON — A celebration for some young achievers in D.C. that happened over the weekend not only uplifted them, but it is getting us uplifted.
Students in the Marion Barry Youth Leadership Institute were celebrated with high tea at the Ronald Reagan Building in Northwest D.C. Students and other youth leaders across the city from both public and private schools were treated to an afternoon of high tea, complete with finger sandwiches and sweet treats.
WUSA9's Alison Seymour even had the pleasure of hosting the program filled with vocal performances, liturgical dance, and an awards presentation to recognize their commitment to service and leadership in their communities. The celebration was made possible in part by the Alumni Association of the Youth Leadership Institute, which looks to enhance and support students currently enrolled in the program.
To date, the alumni association has awarded $53,000 in college scholarships and they regularly hosts workshops in college and career prep, community development and public speaking.
