FEMA K9 Search Specialist adopts rescue dog | Get Uplifted

The Humane Society of Calvert County calls it a "monumental breakthrough for rescue dogs everywhere."

WASHINGTON — A DMV pup is showing the power of second chances while proving that rescue dogs can be heroes.

A 2-year-old Belgian Malinois was a stray at the Prince George's County Animal Shelter when the Humane Society of Calvert County visited to assess and rescue dogs at risk. From the moment they met the smart and beautiful boy, they knew that because of his breed he was a working dog who would excel at a job.

And they were right!

He was adopted by Jon Hope, a K9 search specialist with DC Fire and EMS and Homeland Security, and now goes by the name Ryker.

The Humane Society of Calvert County calls it a "monumental breakthrough for rescue dogs everywhere" and they hope that this success story will show that so many dogs looking for homes can serve in a variety of ways.
