WASHINGTON — There is always a huge turnout for Howard University's homecoming weekend, but this year's event was next level. Sean "Diddy" Combs was on campus rocking the stage during Yardfest.
Diddy says coming to Howard University is like coming home.
"I just felt like, 'Wow, so many incredible memories,'" Diddy told WUSA9.
The hip-hop star is a proud alum of Howard University, and a proud supporter of historically Black institutions. Diddy said HU was the place that laid his foundation, so it was an honor to reciprocate with a $1 million donation to the university.
"This is such a blessing to be able to come back here," he said. "We always gotta keep sowing seeds back into this university. This is one of the most important Black universities in the world, in the history of the world, ain't no better way than to start with a check. Somebody gotta put something in the collection plate."
From Howard alum, to music mogul, to entrepreneur, Diddy has successfully made his mark on the world, but says his work isn't done yet.
"I want my legacy to be freedom. I want to see true freedom for everybody, especially my people. The way to get to that is having things change radically. I look forward to radical change in the world," Diddy said.
This is Diddy's second donation to Howard, the first being in September 2016 during his Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour.
"This is such a tremendously meaningful gift to Howard University, and we are deeply grateful. Since his days here as a student, Sean Combs has always credited Howard for helping him become the groundbreaking entertainer and entrepreneur that he has become. His gift will have a profound impact on our students, paving the way for future leaders. We are honored to have Sean Combs as a part of our Bison family,” said Ben Vinson III, Ph.D., president of Howard University.
