NOVA Wild introduces new two-toed sloths

Slomo and Siesta are the newest residents at NOVA Wild in Vienna.

VIENNA, Va. — NOVA Wild, a nonprofit zoo in Vienna, is giving fans of sloths a unique opportunity. The zoo announced the addition of two two-toed sloths to its zoo late last month. The sloths were named Slomo and Siesta after an online naming contest.

Now, you can get your own private encounter with the notoriously slow animals. NOVA Wild announced tickets for a a 15-minute zookeeper-guided tour inside the newly build sloth enclosure will cost $100 per person, plus the cost of a general admission ticket.

Zoo officials say that for safety and animal welfare, all encounters are at the discretion of NOVA Wild keepers. If animals are not behaving/participating the encounter may be canceled or rescheduled at any time, the zoo said on its website.

It also notes that the sloth encounter space is not ADA compliant.

According to the Smithsonian National Zoo's website, two-toed sloths range throughout Central America and northern South America, including portions of Brazil and Peru. Sloths are strictly arboreal, staying high in the canopy of the tropical rain forests and maintaining a range of about 10 acres.
