NEWARK, N.J. — A 17-year-old is getting us uplifted due to his hard work in school that has truly paid off.
Adrian Ottah will graduate this year with both a high school diploma and a college degree. He is a senior at University High School in Newark, New Jersey.
The school offers a program where college professors come to the school and teach college level courses for a few students.
Ottah's parents immigrated to the U.S. from Nigeria a few years before he was born. He says the sacrifices they made motivated him to seize the opportunity to earn a diploma and a two-year associates degree at the same time.
"My true motivation was my parents, my immigrant parents," Ottah said. "I know they didn't have the opportunity to do this, so when I had the opportunity, I just took it and ran with it."
He had to stay after normal school hours to complete those additional college classes. Now, with all of the college credits he's already earned, he could graduate with a bachelor's degree at just 19 years old.
