Unique art auction celebrates work of community's 'invisible' artists | Get Uplifted

The National Center for Children and Families helped spotlight young artists at its annual gala.

BETHESDA, Md. — We want to recognize a local organization that seeks to inspire hope, purpose and meaning for those in need. The National Center for Children and Families helps those experiencing homelessness, poverty, abuse and neglect by offering housing, services and second chances.

Over the weekend, the organization held its annual gala. "Connected! The HeART of Community" honored those in the community going above and beyond for marginalized populations with a celebration of music, dance and art.

The highlight of the evening was an art auction. The works were created by the young people who receive help, including housing, through NCCF. It was a joy to see the artists, some as young as 7 years old, stand on stage while their pieces were bid on. One piece sold for $400!

It was a remarkable moment of validation for what the NCCF calls typically the most invisible artists in our community.
