Middle school students in Germantown assemble comfort cases | Get Uplifted

The MLK comfort cases included items like shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste.

GERMANTOWN, Md. — A school in the DMV has been living up to the ideals of it's namesake, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As part of their week of service, around 70 students at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School in Germantown assembled about 100 personal care kits and 60 dental kits for Comfort Cases.

Comfort Cases is a nonprofit in Montgomery County that provides backpacks full of care and comfort items to children in the foster care system so that they have their own items when they go to a new home. The MLK comfort cases included items like shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste.

Principal Brandi Overton informed WUSA9 that there is a real emphasis on their student's learning about Dr. King's life and legacy. For the school, the service to their community isn't over. Other projects include making greeting cards and writing letters to seniors and the elderly and making bookmarks for literacy campaigns.

Their efforts are not only uplifting, but inspiring.
