BETHESDA, Md. — A restaurant in Bethesda, Maryland, is making sure our older neighbors don't feel so alone on Thanksgiving. For the fourth year in a row, the co-owner of Medium Rare restaurant and founder of Feed the Fridge is making sure seniors and the food insecure get a Thanksgiving meal.
About 3,000 meals will be prepared and delivered ahead of the holiday by volunteers who have made this part of their annual Thanksgiving tradition.
Bucher explained why it's important to look after older folks in the community.
"They live alone, they're a little isolated, they don't want to tell their families that they're struggling and they're not eating, because they're afraid of losing their independence. So we're the neighbor that keeps a secret," Bucher explained. "No problem. We're going to bring you a Thanksgiving dinner so you know someone is thinking about you."
Each meal will come with a hand-crafted card made by local elementary school kids. It's got us feeling uplifted.
