This Howard professor just made history at the EPA | Get Uplifted

Kimberly Jones becomes the first African-American Scientific Advisory Board chair in 45 years.

WASHINGTON — It's National Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (or STEM) Day. On this day, we congratulate the history-making appointment of an African-American woman named chair of the Science Advisory Board of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Howard University alum, and current associate provost, Kimberly Jones takes the reins at the SAB as the first Black woman to hold the position in its 45-year history. The board is responsible for reviewing quality and importance of scientific information used by the EPA and ultimately helps to protect Americans from health risks and environmental dangers.

Dr. Jones is also a professor at Howard's department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

We salute Dr. Jones for her groundbreaking appointment and commitment to serving as a role model for women and girls, including girls of color, to pursue STEM-related careers.
