ALEXANDRIA, Va. — This simple task of spreading holiday joy to kids who may be celebrating their last holiday season with their families has us feeling uplifted. Over the weekend, nearly 100 kids from Alexandria's Children's Hospice International, along with their families, took a special fantasy flight to visit the North Pole. For many of the kids, this was their first time on an airplane.
They got to write letters to Santa before boarding their flight at Dulles International Airport. Then, in the air, they enjoyed some festive snacks before landing at the decorated North Pole gate. That's when the fun really began.
The kids met Santa and Mrs. Claus, did some arts and crafts, and hung out with therapy dogs. To top it all off, each child got to take home some early holiday gifts.
Making it a full community event, some local students got involved. Georgetown University students sang holiday music. George Mason University students volunteered their time to help entertain the children.
Everyone came together to help bring these kids and their families a happy holiday season.
