COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Prince George's County native Frances Tiafoe is the topic of conversation again, but this time it is for his off-the-court actions.
On Wednesday afternoon, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Foundation awarded a $50,000 grant to the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park. At the event, Tiafoe presented the grant at JTCC's GEICO Champions Celebration, which will help fund the JTCC programming at the Maryland location.
This is the inaugural grant to support Tiafoe's hometown National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network program as it celebrates 25 years of service to the community.
The grant is also part of the USTA Foundation's Frances Tiafoe Fund, which was established in July 2023, and hopes to support the foundation's flagship NJTL network.
The network was created in 1969 to help provide under-resourced youth with free and low-cost tennis and academic programming.
Tiafoe grew up in the NJTL network, making the mission of the USTA Foundation personal for him in his tennis journey. He started playing the sport at the age of four at JTCC, where his dad served as the head of maintenance after immigrating from Sierra Leone in 1996.
