WASHINGTON — A D.C.-native is giving us something to cheer about after showing out on the racetrack.
Rajah Caruth, 21, is bringing pride to his hometown after he nabbed his first career win a NASCAR race Friday night. He also just happens to be an alum of The School Without Walls and only the third African-American driver to win a NASCAR national series race. He won in the Truck Series race.
Before his big win, he had only led two laps in his career, but he led 38 laps in the race in Las Vegas, including the final one.
DC Public Schools took time on Friday to congratulate Caruth on this career win on X, formerly known as Twitter, expressing his early passion for the sport.
Caruth's win serves as a huge breakthrough for the young talent to come through NASCAR's Drive for Diversity program which offers training and opportunities to drivers and pit crew from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
"NASCAR Diversity & Inclusion strives to create an inclusive environment in all facets of the NASCAR industry recognizing the value of diversity, which allows us to go faster and farther in our workplaces, at the race track and in the stands," is the program's philosophy.
