WASHINGTON — It is National Engineers Week and a local tech entrepreneur who is helping to cultivate tomorrow's engineers through his HBCU tech program is getting us uplifted.
Kevin Fomengia is the director of innovation and co-founder of Pathway Oz. It encourages students to create pathways to positive change in their communities.
Fomengia is harnessing talent at HBCU's to solve real-world problems and issues including infrastructure, housing, and public safety. His overall mission is to create pathways to get more diversity into the STEM sector.
"This helps our companies, this helps out the bottom line, this helps out America as a whole, so when you are allowing students, especially in our community, to give them the opportunity – it benefits everyone," Fomengia said.
One of his student teams has already come up with life-saving technology for first responders that allows them to respond faster to emergencies.
The culminating event is the community tech day event which includes the annual pitch competition, a career fair, and networking opportunities.
