HERNDON, Va. — The wonders of childhood, especially when it comes to the fascination some kids have with big trucks, is helping us to get uplifted.
Recently, students at Floris Elementary School in Herndon had a really big day learning and exploring all kinds of large vehicles from Fairfax County businesses and public services, including a commuter bus and even a helicopter at their annual Big Truck Day event. Local jurisdictions like the Fairfax County Police Department bring large trucks and vehicles to offer out-of-the-classroom experiences for graduating kindergarteners and special needs students.
The kids got the chance to interact with drivers to check out and explore the vehicles up close. Among the fleet was a bucket truck provided by Dominion Energy.
Kids got to wear big utility gloves and see a bucket going up and also see how a line worker does their job. Parents who attended say it was heartwarming to see kids learning about the different ways various entities serving the community come together.
The big truck event has been a learning and educational event for the past 30 years.
