WASHINGTON — Multiple chefs across the D.C. area are celebrating their hard work after receiving a prestigious award on Monday for their talents.
The James Beard Foundation announced the winners of the 2024 James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards, which honors excellence across the culinary industry. This covers fine dining to casual eateries.
The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. The winners of this year's awards are recognized across 22 categories. Here are the winners from the area:
- Outstanding Chef presenting by Hilton: A chef who sets high culinary standards and has served as a positive example for food professionals.
- Michael Rafidi, Albi, Washington, D.C.
- Emerging Chef presented by S.Pellegrino® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water: A chef who shows exceptional talent, character, and leadership ability, and is likely to make a significant impact in years to come.
- Masako Morishita, Perry's, Washington, D.C.
- Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic (DC, DE, MD, NJ, PA, VA): A chef who set high standards in their culinary skills and leadership abilities, and who are making efforts to help create a sustainable work culture in their respective region.
- Harley Peet, Bas Rouge, Easton, Maryland
