Black Restaurant Week begins Monday

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will also announce another round of Food Access Fund grantees — a program that aims to increase access to food in Wards 7 and 8.

The 6th annual DMV Black Restaurant Week begins Monday, and runs until Dec. 10.

The annual tradition, hosted by DMV Black Restaurant Week, celebrates D.C.-area, Black-owned restaurants and bars.

On its website, there is a breakdown of Black-owned restaurants, bars and hospitality establishments by ward in D.C. There are also Maryland restaurants listed in Silver Spring and Hyattsville.

In February, the group plans to release an updated directory of Black-owned businesses in the area, according to its website.

On Monday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will also announce another round of Food Access Fund grantees —  a program that aims to increase access to grocery stores and restaurants, with a focus on Wards 7 and 8. It was launched by Bowser in 2021, and more than $24 million has been invested in the fund.

There will also be a ribbon cutting at Miss Toya’s Southern Cajun Kitchen, which is a new, Black-owned restaurant in Ward 7. There is also a Miss Toya's location in Gaithersburg.
