Wildlife center rescues bat in Arlington

AWLA says the local bat conservation will take care of him until he is well enough to be released into the wild.

ARLINGTON, Va. — A wildlife center in Arlington announced Monday that they rescued their first bat of the year last week by sharing a video.

Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) said the big brown bat arrived at their Wildlife Resource Center after it was found crawling across the street in a local neighborhood. When the bat was found, officials said he was dehydrated and exhausted.

In posts on their social accounts, officials can be seen giving the bat fluids while being held in a blue-colored cloth wrapping. They said after AWLA officers gave him some fluids and let him rest, he was taken to the Bat Conservation and Rescue of Virginia.

The local bat rehabbers website states that their mission is "to conserve native bat species in Virginia and beyond by engaging, empowering, and educating people of all ages and abilities to ensure the future of Virginia's bats and preserve their habitats."

AWLA says the bat conservation will take care of him until he is well enough to be released into the wild.
