Residents at The Flats at Dupont Circle Apartments dealing with rat infestation

A group of about 50 residents at a Northwest D.C. apartment say they've been dealing with a rat infestation.

WASHINGTON — A group of about 50 residents at a Northwest D.C. apartment building say they've been dealing with a rat infestation.

Raven Mcauliffe is one of several residents at The Flats at Dupont Circle Apartments in NW D.C. who say they've been quite literally living with rats for months now.

"I moved out because I started hearing them under my bed, found them in my pantry," Mcauliffe said.

Sarah Montesclaros, another resident, said the rats are everywhere. Her brother, who lives in the same building has been staying with her because his apartment is infested with rats. She told WUSA9 she's reported the issue several times but the issue has yet to be resolved.

"They said they would come every Wednesday, but no one has come around to see my apartment or anything," Montesclaros explained.

Elena Aniko has been living at the building for almost a year. She said she sometimes finds rats hiding under her fridge. She told WUSA9 the rodents have taken over her kitchen, her bathroom, and now her bedroom.

She pays almost $2,500 a month for a studio.

"Because I live in four walls I wish management would do something more about that. It's a recurring issue, they don't do anything about it," Aniko said.

WUSA9 reached out to management at The Flats at Dupont Circle for comment.

If you're dealing with a similar issue and your landlord isn't helpful, residents can file a report with the DC Office of Attorney General. Residents can also request a housing code inspection.
