WASHINGTON — The Washington Commanders might have hung up their jerseys until next season, but during this Super Bowl season the DMV will be represented. Multiple four-legged footballers from the area will be taking the field during the Puppy Bowl.
For its 20th year, the 2024 Puppy Bowl will have a three-hour TV matchup that will feature 131 puppies, 73 shelters and rescues from across 36 states and territories -- which will include the all-time smallest pup, Sweetpea, at 1.7 pounds and the biggest, Levi the Great Dane at 72 pounds. The players will represent Team Ruff and Team Fluff in a dog-gone good game.
Two of those paws-itively cute pups are from right in the DMV -- coming from Operation Paws for Homes, which rescues dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters to foster homes in Maryland, D.C., Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
Blake
Blake has been adopted by a family in Pennsylvania and has been described as being a handful and having the best personality. He has two doggy siblings, Rocko and Dixie, and always a house full of temporary foster-dog siblings! He additionally has four human siblings ranging in age from 1.5 to 11 years old. Blake loves to run around the yard chasing friends, or being chased, whichever is happening in that moment.
Coby
Coby was adopted by a family in the area and is loving life on Capitol Hill -- saying hi to all the people and pups at Eastern Market on weekends, frolicking on the Capitol grounds during his evening walks, greeting the guards at the Supreme Court on his morning walks, and romping with his best fur friend at the fountains behind the House office buildings on weekends.
The Puppy Bowl will air on Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. EST across Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, truTV, Max and discovery+.
There will also be more puppies participating from Virginia and Maryland. To see a full lineup, click here.
