SAN ANTONIO – When she entered the #FindingMiss52 contest, 24-year-old San Antonio native Catherine Williams, never thought she would become a Top 10 finalist.
The contest is presented by The Miss Universe Organization and Sherri Hill to compete in the Miss USA 2016 pageant in Las Vegas on June 5 as the 52nd contestant.
Williams applied for the contest initially through social media and, within a few days, was contacted and notified that she had been narrowed down to the Top 25 where she was interviewed by a panel of judges including Miss Universe herself, Pia Wurtzbach.
“I feel like I have a story to tell,” Williams said. “I realized it is like a lot of other people’s stories.”
Williams is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and was a Division I college athlete. She is proud to say that she is a first-generation college graduate.
"I felt I had a calling to serve. My junior year in college I joined the [Army] reserves,” Williams said. “Overcoming that obstacle was huge in my life. The fact that I was able to persevere helped to drive me forward.”
