WASHINGTON — Those who enjoy keeping concert and game tickets as physical souvenirs will need to find new ways to commemorate their time at Capital One Arena starting next year -- the arena will be going completely digital in 2020 in an effort to make venue entry easier than ever for fans.
The new policy will make all concerts and shows in the arena, as well as season tickets for the Wizards and the Capitals, have mobile-entry passes rather than physical tickets.
The new initiative kicks of January 1 and will partner with Ticketmaster Presence, an elevated platform of Ticketmaster that will allow fans to access the digital passes. A press release from Monumental said that the new app also aims at streamlining event operations and helps protects against ticket fraud, as well as provides real-time game analytics.
The move to go digital-only hasn't been an entirely new experience for fans, however. Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations and Chief Commercial Officer at Monumental, said the tech-heavy presence has been around for years and comes as a move to help fans make events more manageable.
"We have had a very strong mobile presence for the past four years with the vast majority of our fans currently taking advantage of the benefits of utilizing digital tickets for entry into Capitals and Wizards games at Capital One Arena," Van Stone said. "We are focused on making our entire ticketing process as streamlined as possible while ensuring our fans are fully educated and prepared for how to best manage their tickets."
For season ticket members and concert-goers, tutorials and interactive videos will be available during the spring and summer before the 2020-2021 games to serve as a refresher.
