Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle hosts art exhibit for DC statehood

Art Enables and DC Vote also partnered up for the Art Drives Statehood exhibit.

WASHINGTON — The Nationals' Sean Doolittle may have his throwing arm in a brace but he's using his platform to pitch for D.C. statehood.

Doolittle and his wife Erin co-hosted the launch of an art exhibit last night with DC Vote and Art Enables at he Atlas Performing Arts Center in Northeast D.C.

The exhibition, titled "Art Drives Statehood," features work by artists from the Art Enables gallery. It promotes artists with disabilities.

For the event, artists were asked to offer ideas for new statehood license plates.

Doolittle and his wife got involved because of their commitment to the cause of statehood for D.C.

"At the end of the day it's about the people who live here," Doolittle said. "The residents of the city deserve a chance to self-determine the solutions to everything that goes on in the city. They deserve that representation."

Proceeds from the event went to the artists as well as Art Enables. Artwork will be on display until Sept. 2.
