WASHINGTON — An exceptional D.C. educator has been recognized for her work in a big way.
Ms. Griselda Rutherford-Strong just won the Life-Changing Teacher Award. She works at Barnard Elementary School in Northwest.
The national non-profit Honored Schools gave her the award, along with a check for $5,000. The non-profit says Rutherford-Strong was chosen from a group of about 300 D.C. teachers. She was nominated by students and parents who shared stories of the impact she's had on their lives. Those stories were submitted to Honored Schools for consideration.
Rutherford-Strong was brought to tears by the surprise announcement, made during the school's graduation ceremony in front of students and parents.
The award is meant to recognize Rutherford-Strong's impact on student lives both inside and outside of her classroom.
