WINCHESTER, Va. — The nominations for the 77th Annual Tony Awards were announced Tuesday and among the ranks is a Virginia actor.
The big names have probably been seen on social media feeds, but there is one nomination that has special ties to the DMV.
Brody Grant earned a nomination for best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical. He plays Ponyboy Curtis in "The Outsiders."
Grant received his musical theater degree in 2021 from Shenandoah University and Conservatory, which is located in Winchester, Virginia. And he made his Broadway debut within three years of graduating.
The school's associate professor of theater, Kevin Covert, shared his pride for Grant writing in a statement, "It was clear from the start that Brody was special, and he was willing to put in the hard work as an actor, singer, and dancer to help fulfill his dreams. His hard work and dedication to his craft are being so beautifully rewarded this theatre season."
"The Outsiders" received 12 Tony nominations altogether including best musical.
