4 light summer beers you should try

With over 7,000 breweries in the U.S., more beer options are becoming available.

WASHINGTON D.C., DC —

A perfect summer night should consist of beer, right? However, certain beers can be too heavy or ruin that summer body you worked oh so hard for. Well, no worries. Craig Purser, president and CEO of the National Beer Wholesalers Association stopped by Great Day Washington to talk about four different beers you should sip on responsibly this summer.

1. Dogfish Slightly Mighty Lo-Cal IPA

While this Dogfish beer is an IPA, it is only 95 calories and 3.6g carbs. Brewed out of Delaware, this beer adds monk fruit instead of sugar to create the beer flavor everyone loves, without adding on the additional calories.

2. Gold Leaf Golden Lager

From Virginia's own Devils Backbone Brewing Company, this beer will provide a new flavor you might have never tasted before. With an ABV of 4.5, Gold Leaf still provides a light and refreshing taste.

3. Crispin Original Hard Cider

This is not your typical cider. It is a fruit forward beer and gluten-free! (Yes, that’s possible.) While the cider trend has become quite popular in the U.K., it is beginning to reach U.S. markets and this is one you should definitely try.

4.  White Claw Pure Hard Seltzer

The White Claw Pure seltzer is the perfect option for a DIY drink. While the pure seltzer is flavorless, that allows you to pair it with other drink options making it a great low-cal mixer. However, White Claw offers flavored seltzers options like mango, black cherry and ruby grapefruit.
