WASHINGTON — On this Giving Tuesday we want to share a story of an amazing gift.
Back on Thanksgiving, our Jess Arnold told you about the nonprofit Food and Friends. It provides meals to thousands of our neighbors who are living with serious illnesses. We met a man from D.C. named Michael Fauntleroy. He has been on dialysis and dealing with kidney failure.
"Having an illness and somebody to show compassion and to do something for you like this, it means a lot. I never imagined being on the receiving end. Once my journey continues, I'm still going to be out there volunteering and giving back to others because people like Food and Friends have given to me," Fauntleroy said.
We just got word that Fauntleroy received a donor kidney on Monday! He says he is doing great.
We wish you all the best in the future Mr. Fauntleroy.
According to the National Kidney Foundation, 660,000 people are living with kidney failure nationwide, and 100,000 people are still waiting for a transplant. To learn more about kidney donation, click here.
For Giving Tuesday, the National Kidney Foundation is doubling all donations made. Click here to make a donation.
