WASHINGTON — The day after Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Every year on Black Friday, hundreds of brands announce deals and discounts as the official start of the holiday shopping season begins. If you have a vinyl record fan on your shopping list this year, there's good news: The usually annual celebration of vinyl records has returned with a new list of exclusive releases.
This year's Black Friday release list includes reissues, soundtracks and special edition albums from everyone from The Beatles, to Isaac Hayes, to Rage Against the Machine. It's an opportunity to grab some goodies, and shop small in the process.
Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1,400 independently-owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Today, Record Store Day is celebrated at independently-owned brick-and-mortar record stores around the world.
