Jazz and symphony sounds: DC's Labor Day weekend hits all the right notes

Why did the jazz musician bring a ladder to the DC JazzFest? Because he wanted to reach the high notes.

WASHINGTON — Forget the grill — this Labor Day weekend, D.C.’s cooking up something hotter: a weekend of jazz beats and symphonic treats that’ll have you dancing like no one’s watching. Whether you're into smooth jazz, sweeping symphonies, or simply in it for the free festivities, the District's got you covered.

Jazz It Up! The District’s 20th Annual Jazz Festival

Get ready to groove as D.C. celebrates its 20th Annual Jazz Festival. With more than 35 musical acts slated to perform, this festival is spreading sweet sounds all over the city. From the vibrant beats of The Chuck Brown Band to the soulful tunes of Sharon Gunn's "Saffron," there's a little something for every ear.

The festival isn’t confined to one spot—performances are popping up at locations across the District including The Wharf, Union Stage, and the Kennedy Center. The best part? Sharon Gunn's "Saffron" is hosting a free concert at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage Friday night, so you can catch some top-tier talent without spending a dime. Of course, if you’re looking to splurge a little, there are plenty of paid performances throughout the weekend.

On Sunday, the gates open at 3 p.m., giving you plenty of time to snag a prime spot. Bring your blankets, chairs, and a picnic, and settle in for an evening of classical brilliance. The performance kicks off at 8 p.m.

Whether you're swaying to the rhythm of jazz or soaking in the symphony, this Labor Day weekend in D.C. is all about celebrating the music that moves us. So, grab your friends, pick your venue, and get ready to celebrate.
