Hoda Kotb's announcement that she has adopted a baby girl had the ladies of The Talk in tears on Tuesday when ET's Nischelle Turner joined their dais to chat about the news.
"Her joy was so pure," Sara Gilbert commented after watching Kotb's announcement that happened live on the Today show. "It's just the sweetest thing."
The baby, named Haley Joy, was born on Valentine's Day and is Kotb's first child. The 52-year-old news anchor is currently dating financier Joel Schiffman, but made no mention of his involvement in the adoption announcement.

"I get why she's doing it now. She's established in her life. She's got money. She's got time. She's got the resources to do it," Aisha Tyler said. "I think what happens to you in that situation is you think, 'I have so much. It would be so great to share this with someone whose future might not be as bright in another situation.'"
In fact, Gilbert, who is already a mother to three children (Levi, 12, Sawyer, 9, and Rhodes, 1), admitted she might make a similar move somewhere down the line.
"I have always had a fantasy of that, or at least fostering a kid later. I don't want to do it now, because I don't have enough resources, but I feel like, as my kids get a little bigger, maybe that's a fantasy that I have. We'll see."
"There's so many of those kids out there, who just want someone to love them," Turner chimed in.
At the end of the segment, the hosts heard from a viewer named Elizabeth from Oregon, who sent in a response from home. Elizabeth explained that she was adopted at the age of 11 and now has children of her own at 51, but is considering adoption.
"I know what it feels like to not be wanted," Elizabeth said. "And when I was adopted, it felt so good to be part of a family."
The Talk airs weekdays on CBS.
