Here are the DMV chefs and restaurants in the running for a James Beard Award

Nominees will be announced in April.

WASHINGTON — The James Beard Foundation just announced the 2024 semifinalists for the prestigious culinary award. Several restaurants, chefs and hospitality professionals from across the DMV made the list.

The James Beard Foundation's Restaurant and Chef Awards recognize exceptional talent and achievement in the culinary arts, hospitality and other categories.

Here are a few highlights: 

  • Chef Michael Rafidi of Albi is a semifinalist for Outstanding Chef. 
  • Perry's Chef Masako Morishita is in the running for the Emerging Chef award.
  • Moon Rabbit's Susan Bae is a semifinalist in the Outstanding Pastry Chef category.
  • Falls Church, Virginia, is on the map thanks to 2941, a semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurant.

The field for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic is crowded with nine DMV chefs, including Kevin Tien from the recently reopened Moon Rabbit and Tony Conte at Darnestown, Maryland's Inferno Pizzeria Napoletana.

  • Keem Hughley: Bronze (Best Chef-Mid-Atlantic)
  • Esther Lee: Obelisk (Best Chef-Mid-Atlantic)
  • Travis Milton: Hickory at Nicewonder Farm and Vineyards (Best Chef-Mid-Atlantic)

Nominees will be announced on Wednesday, April 3 and winners will be announced at a ceremony in Chicago on Monday, June 10.
