WASHINGTON — Don't be surprised to see another brush with rain showers, and even some wintry weather, midweek in the DMV. A fast-moving low pressure system will sweep through the area late Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning. With enough cold air in place, we could even see a mixture of rain and snow in parts of Maryland, West Virginia, and Northern Virginia.
Model solutions show a pretty moisture-starved system. Overall, there will be mostly patchy light rain and sprinkles over D.C. (mainly for the district and points west), but some wintry mix and/or wet snowflakes along and west of the I 81 Corridor.
The winter weather out west would start late Tuesday night (after midnight) and end by around noon on Wednesday.
This system will not bring much in terms of snow accumulation. Most computer models keep the majority of precipitation just west the D.C. region, with a quick jump of any precipitation to the Eastern Seaboard and then a quick push out to sea early Wednesday. The nature of this type of storm track typically does not bring a lot of snow, nor rain to our area. The most likely place for snow and any accumulation will be in higher elevation areas such as Cumberland, Oakland, Hagerstown, Winchester and Luray.
Outside of that, there are really no other significant winter weather chances in the cards over the next week or so.
