Police asking for the public's help locating parents of toddler found in Alexandria

The child is currently in the care of Child Protective Services.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A toddler was found in Alexandria Wednesday night, and now police are asking for the public's help locating her family.

The Alexandria Police Department says witnesses reported that she was dropped off around 9:45 p.m. on South Van Dorn Street, off of Duke Street. They also stated that the person who dropped her off was driving a small white SUV.

No description of the driver was provided.

As of 1 p.m. Thursday, police said the child was "safe and doing well in the custody of Alexandria DCHS Child Welfare Services." Detectives are in touch with members of the girl's family who are assisting with the investigation.

Detectives are asking anyone with any information on her identity or the location of her parents or guardians to call 911 or 703-746-4444. Callers will remain anonymous.
